SBI PO Pay Scale

The basic pay for SBI Probationary Officer is Rs. 27,620/- (with 4 advance increments) in the scale of 23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The officials are also eligible for Daily Allowances, House Rent Allowances/ Lease rental, C.C.A, Medical and other allowances & perquisites as per time to time rules. The total compensation per annum on CTC basis be a minimum of 8.20 lacs and maximum of 13.08 lacs depending on place of posting and other factors.

SBI PO Recruitment Process

The recruitment process for Probationary Officers at SBI consists of 3 stages:
  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination
  • GD/Interview

SBI PO Exam Pattern

The SBI PO selection process consists of 3 stages. The written examinations are conducted online, followed by the group discussions and personal interview round.

Phase-1: SBI PO Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is conducted online where the candidates are required to solve the question paper in 1 hour. The test consists of 3 sections for 100 marks.
P.S.: The sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Exam has been removed and hence the overall score of the candidate will be considered for the selection to the next round. The minimum passing marks or cut-off is decided by the Bank and depends on the difficulty level of the test.

Phase-2: SBI PO Main Examination

The main exam comprises of both objective online test and subjective test for a total of 250 marks.

i) Objective Test: It consists of 4 sections which is to be completed in 3 hours. The marks allotted for objective test is 200.

ii) Descriptive Test: It comprises of two questions (letter writing and essay) which is to be completed in 30 mins. The marks allotted for descriptive test is 50.

Negative Marking: One fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted for each incorrect answers ((applicable for both preliminary and mains examination). However, no marks will be deducted for unattempt answers.

Phase-3: Group Exercise and Personal Interview

Candidate who clears both the Prelims & Main Exam of SBI PO will be further called for Group Exercise & Interview. They are required to face a panel of selectors discussing challenges of banking, economy and general interests. Also candidates would be required to answer questions and solve problems asked given by Board of Interview.

Marks Allotted:
Group Discussion - 20 marks
Personal Interview - 30 marks

Final Selection

The final merit list is prepared by SBI wherein the candidate's score of Mains Exam and Interview Round will be taken into account. The final cut-off marks will be declared on the basis of the score obtained by candidates and the available vacancies. Candidates who clear the cut-off range will be granted the Appointment Letter by State Bank of India for the post of Probationary Officer.

SBI PO Eligibility Criteria

The candidate are required to fulfill the following two criteria to be eligible for the SBI PO Exam:

Age Limit:

The age of the candidate must be between 21 to 30 years.

Relaxation of Upper age limit:
  • SC/ST: 5 Years

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years

  • Persons With Disabilities (PWD) PWD (SC/ST): 15 Years

  • PWD (OBC): 13 Years

  • PWD (Gen): 10 Years

  • Ex Servicemen, Commissioned officers including Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) who have rendered 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from the last date of receipt of application) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency or physical disability attributable to military service or invalidment: 5 Years

  • Persons Ordinarily domiciled of the state of Jammu & Kashmir during the period 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989: 5 Years

Educational Qualification:

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their graduation in any discipline or other equivalent examination from a recognized University/institutions.
  2. Candidates in their final year/semester of their Graduation are also eligible to apply.
  3. Candidates with Chartered Accountant certification are also eligible to apply.

Seat Reservations for Persons with Disability (PWD)

As per section 34 of “Rights of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016” 4% horizontal reservation has been provided to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. The post is identified suitable for the Persons with undernoted categories of disabilities as specified in the Schedule of RPWD Act 2016-:

A. Visual Impairment (VI):

Only those Visually Impaired (VI) candidates who suffer from any one of the following conditions, are eligible to apply.

a. Blindness:
i. Total absence of sight;
OR
ii. Visual acuity less than 3/60 or less than 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with best possible correction
OR
iii. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of less than 10 degree.
OR

b. Low Vision:
i. Visual acuity not exceeding 6/18 or less than 20/60 upto 3/60 or upto 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with best possible corrections;
OR
ii. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of less than 40 degree up to 10 degree.

B. Hearing Impaired (HI):

a. Deaf: Person having 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.
b. Hard of Hearing: Person having 60 DB to 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.

C. Locomotor Disabilities (LD):

Locomotor Disability* including cerebral Palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy. Orthopedically challenged persons are covered under locomotor disability with following bench mark:

a. OA - One arm affected (Right or Left)
b. OL - One leg affected (Right or Left)
c. OAL - One arm & One Leg affected
d. BL - Both legs affected but not arms

Persons with OA and OAL category should have normal bilateral hand functions.

SBI PO Number of Attempts

The maximum number of attempts are fixed for each category. Candidates who have used all the attempts are not eligible to apply. Appearing in the Preliminary Exam is not counted as an attempt but appearing in Mains Exam is counted.
  1. General: 4 no. of attempts
  2. General (PWD): 7 no. of attempts
  3. OBC/ OBC(PWD): 7 no. of attempts
  4. SC/SC(PWD)/ST/ST(PWD): No restriction
