Careers in Biological and Biomedical Sciences

If you enjoy studying life processes, analyzing and treating diseases, and finding about the relationship between environment and health, then a degree in biomedical and biological sciences would help you. In literal terms, biomedical science is the application of biology-based science to medical use. It can be used for research, health monitoring or treatment.

Diagnosis, analyses and treatment have become highly specialized and technical. This has led to the demand for trained biomedical scientists who are able to perform several technical procedures of screening and improving human health. A biomedical student performs tests like HIV testing, tumor diagnosis, metabolic disorders and blood types.

A biomedical student should be good at medical biochemistry, microbiology, clinical and medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, pathology and/or cytology.

A biological and biomedical sciences student can find employment in hospital laboratories, veterinary laboratories, blood banks, forensics, and pharmaceutical offices.
