Careers in Indian Postal Department

The Department of Posts, popularly known as India Post is operated by the government. The Department is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Government of India. The reach of India Post is so wide, that on an average a single post office covers an area of 21.23 square kilometres.
India is divided into 22 circles and each circle is then further subdivided into regions. Each circle is headed by chief post master general and each region by post master general. The divisions further branches into subdivisions.

The circles and regions are assisted by several logistic units like store depots, stamp depots, and mail motor service. The Railway Mail Service or RMS offices are controlled by senior superintendents or superintendents RMS in each circle.

Important Services of India Post

Mail Service

Delivers letters, and parcels including registered posts, books, magazines, newspapers.

Financial Services

Delivers instant money order, postal life insurance, and savings scheme

Philately

Includes printing and designing and distribution of stamps, monitors and conducts philatelic exhibitions around the country.

Counter Services

Through the counter, one can book registered mails, money orders, parcels and various other transactions.

Eservice

epostal service has been recently introduced where electronic transfer of money can be done

Careers in Indian Post

Postman and Mail Guard

An aptitude test of 100 marks is conducted for the above posts. The written test includes questions on general awareness, mathematics, English and Hindi. Minimum qualification is Class 10 from any board.

Postmaster

Candidates need to clear a written test which consists of two papers, 100 marks each – Paper I includes Customer services and grievances and rules and regulations of postal operations and Paper II tests knowledge of products and services of the Department of Posts and General awareness and Current Affairs.

Indian Postal Service Group A position

From time to time, recruitment of Group A postal service is advertised in all national dailies. Any graduate from a recognised university is eligible to apply for the position.
