Control Systems Engineer

Would you like to work  with cutting-edge knowledge and techniques that can be directly used in an industrial environment. Control Systems Engineers analyze user requirements and the design of process and/or mechanical equipment to design automation systems that will cause the equipment to function in the desired manner. They analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to identify the system components and develop the design and functional specifications for the automation systems. They are responsible for the interface between the hardware and software development for the automation system.

The Control System Engineer is accountable to provide control system technical support to automation, process engineering, operations, reliability and other stakeholders.

Role of Control Systems Engineer

  • Conduct or direct system-level automotive testing.
  • Design control systems or algorithms for purposes such as automotive energy management, emissions management, or increased operational safety or performance.
  • Design or analyze automobile systems in areas such as aerodynamics, alternate fuels, ergonomics, hybrid power, brakes, transmissions, steering, calibration, safety, or diagnostics.
  • Alter or modify designs to obtain specified functional or operational performance.
  • Develop engineering specifications or cost estimates for automotive design concepts.
  • Develop or integrate control feature requirements.
  • Review on mechanical components, assemblies, and systems designs including fit-checks, stack-up analysis, and input into custom packaging design solutions.
  • Determine level of integration appropriate for suppliers, factory, and customer.
  • Complete Design for Assembly reviews and work with design team to resolve identified gaps.
  • Platform configuration recommendations (boards, chassis, power supply, peripherals, etc.).
  • Production and maintenance of instrument summaries

Skills of Control Systems Engineer

  • Self-motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Control Systems Engineers must be creative thinkers to design automated systems.
  • Critical Thinking: Confidence and ability to negotiate directly alternative solutions with internal and external customers

Academic Qualification for Control Systems Engineer

Most control systems engineers are mechanical or production engineers. Control Systems Engineers earn a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and learn the intricacies of Automation Engineering on the job. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering courses may include robotics, statistics, fluid dynamics and databases. Some engineers pursue master’s degrees.
