The Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai offers training to men and women willing to Join Indian Army in Short Service Commission (SSC). Its location is about 15 Km from Chennai central railway station on GST road. The academy is loacted over 650 acres of land area traversed by Adyar river. Officers appointed under SSC for administrative jobs, technical jobs or JAG entry receives training here.
The OTA Chennai was established on 15 January 1963. Its affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The old name of OTA was OTS i.e. Officers Training School. In the 1985, this institution was granted permanent status and proposal was sent to Indian Headquarters to rename it give status of an academy at par with NDA Khadakwasla and IMA Dehradun. Maj Gen N Vishwanathan announced the renaming of OTS into OTA during a special meet on the New Year Day 1988.
