WOS-A: Women Scientist Scheme-A

Women Scientists Scheme (WOS-A) is offered by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for Indian women scientists and technologists of 27 and 57 years of age for pursuing research in the fields of basic/applied sciences in the frontier areas of science and engineering. WOS-A aims to provide opportunities to women scientists who are desirous of returning to the mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. The scheme plays pivotal role in gender mainstreaming as it not only prevents brain drain from S&T system but also train and retain women in the system.

Benefits:
Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences/MD or equivalent degree:
Amount of Fellowship per month: Rs.55,000/- HRA* as applicable
Total Cost of the Project: Rs.30 lakh (excluding HRA and Overhead)

M.Phil/M.Tech/M.Pharm/M.VSc or equivalent degree:
Amount of Fellowship per month: Rs.40,000/- HRA* as applicable
Total Cost of the Project: Rs.25 lakh (excluding HRA and Overhead)

M.Sc in Basic or Applied Sciences/MBBS/B.Tech or equivalent degree:
Amount of Fellowship per month: Rs.31,000/- HRA* as applicable
Total Cost of the Project: Rs.20 lakh (excluding HRA and Overhead)

Women Scientists Scheme WOS-A Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be a women scientist or technologist
The age of the candidate must be between 27 and 57 years
Candidates must have a PhD or MSc in Basic/Applied Science, MTech, MBBS, MD, MS, MCH/DM in the medical stream or BTech from a recognised university.

Note: The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC and physically challenged category will receive an age relaxation of 5 years in the eligibility.
