WOS-C: Women Scientist Scheme-C

Women Scientist Scheme-C (WOS-C) is offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India for Indian women between 27 and 45 years of age pursuing studies in science. The scheme provides women scientists with the opportunity to return to mainstream science and work in the field and area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and earn a stipend of up to INR 35,000 per month. WOS-C aims to train women having qualifications in science/engineering/medicine or allied areas in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and their management for a period of one year in order to develop a pool of women scientists geared to creating, protecting and managing intellectual property in India. Hands-on training on different aspects of IPRs (e.g. patent search, know-how, drafting, filing, trademarks, trade secrets, copyright etc.) is major part of WOS-C  curriculum in association with various Knowledge Partners (i.e. Law firms, Knowledge Processing Organizations (KPOs), Companies, Government agencies, and so on).

Benefits:

The following benefits will be received by the selected scholars:
  1. A stipend of INR 35,000 per month will be given to holders of Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences/MD or equivalent degree.
  2. A stipend of INR 30,000 per month will be given to holders of M.Phil/M.Tech/M.Pharm/M.VSc or equivalent degree.
  3. A stipend of INR 25,000 per month will be given to holders of M.Sc in Basic or Applied Sciences/MBBS/B.Tech or equivalent degree.

Women Scientist Scheme-C Eligibility Criteria

The following applicants are eligible to apply for the program:
  • Candidate must be a Women having Indian citizenship.
  • Candidates must either have a Master of Science or a Bachelors in Engineering/Technology or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be between 27 and 45 years of age as on the year of applying.
  • Candidates must desirably be proficient in handling computerized database, collection, collation, analysis and report preparation.
Note: The women occupying a permanent position or who have already undergone partial or full training are not eligible to apply.

Candidates are required to apply online by logging into the official website https://dst.gov.in/

Documents required:

  1. Scanned photographs and signature
  2. Any details on papers published or accepted and Patents granted/applied (if any).
  3. Details of scholarships received (if any).
  4. Details of periods of employment and unemployment (if any).

Women Scientist Scheme-C Selection Criteria

A pan-India examination and an interview is conducted to shortlist applicants.
The examination will be conducted in objective-type.
The time duration of the examination is 2 hours in which the candidates have to attempt 120 questions.
The question paper is divided into two sections namely, General Section and Technical Subject Section.
Only shortlisted applicants will be called for the online test.
A merit list will be released after the online examination for the purpose of the interview and the successful applicants will be informed.

Terms and Conditions
  1. Only eight days of leave is allowed during the term of training for 1 year.
  2. Candidates who are prepared to relocate themselves for training around different coordination centres should only apply.
  3. Candidates will have to report to the coordination centre within 1 week of receiving the intimation.
  4. TIFAC will recover the paid stipend from the applicants who leave the programme in the middle.
  5. No documents received from the applicants through post/email will be regarded or entertained.
  6. Only a single form per candidate will be considered.
  7. Applicants must keep the Application Number safe which is generated at the end of filling up the application form. The number can be used to know the status of the application.
  8. The applicant can "Edit" his/her application anytime they want to provided they do it before the "Last Date". The respective login credentials of the applicant shall be used for accessing his/her online application form.
