FTII JET is the entrance examination for admission into Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) Kolkata. FTII JET Eligibility Criteria

Courses under the Film Wing Group

Name of the Specializations: Sound Recording & Sound Design
Minimum Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at senior secondary (10 2) level.

Name of the Specializations: Art Direction & Production Design
Minimum Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in applied arts, architecture, painting,sculpture, interior design or related fields in fine arts or equivalent diploma from a recognized institute in any of the above.

Courses under the TV Wing Group

Name of the Specialization: Sound Recording & Television Engineering/Sound for Electronic and Digital Media
Minimum Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at senior second ary (10+2) level.

FTII JET Application Fees

Film Wing Group

  1. For SC, ST and PwD category candidates (for any one course): 1250
  2. For all other categories of candidates (for any one course): 4000

TV Wing Group

FTII JET Exam Pattern

Duration: 3 hours
Examination for all film wing courses, i.e. will be conducted in the morning session (3 hours, 100 marks).
Examination for all the TV wing courses, will be conducted in the afternoon session (3 hours, 100 marks).

Total Marks: Each Question Paper will be of 100 marks (50 marks for Multiple Choice Questions and 50 marks for descriptive answers).

** Multiple Choice Questions will have to be answered on OMR sheets.

NOTE: Only one course in the Film Wing group and one course from the TV wing group can be applied by the candidate.

FTII JET Syllabus

Film Wing Courses

The test papers will be of 100 Marks, which will be divided into two sections of 50 Marks each.

Section A
  1. General Aptitude Test (MCQ): 50 Marks
  2. General Awareness (National / International) – 15 marks
  3. General Mental Ability (Mathematical / Abstract Reasoning) – 15 marks
  4. Indian History, Culture, Art, Architecture, Music, Folk-art, Cinema, Television etc – 20 marks
Total: 50 Marks

Section B
  1. Specific Area Aptitude Test (Descriptive): 50 Marks
This section is structured to test the aptitude and ability of a candidate in the specific field of cinematic expression. It consists of eight questions and out of these, a candidate must attempt any five. Each question carries Ten Marks.

Total: 5 x 10 = 50 Marks

Television Wing Courses

The test papers is for 100 Marks, which will be divided in to two sections of 50 Marks each.

Section A
  1. Common Aptitude Test (MCQ) : 50 Marks
  2. General Awareness (National/International): 15 marks
  3. General Mental Ability (Mathematical / Abstract Reasoning): 15 marks
  4. Indian and International Television, Mass Media, Indian History, Culture, Music, Folk-art etc: 20 marks
Total: 50 Marks
Section B
  1. Specific Area Aptitude Test (Descriptive): 50 Marks
This section is structured to test the aptitude and ability of a candidate in the chosen audiovisual field. There will be a total of eight questions, out of these a candidate need to attempt any five. Each question carries Ten Marks.

Total: 5 x 10 = 50 Marks

FTII JET Admission Process

FTII and SRFTI is independent regarding own eligibility criteria (including academic cut-offs and relative weights) and follows different evaluation method, post the JET selection process.

Therefore, on  the  basis  of  JET performance,  candidates  are shortlisted  for  the  next  level  of selection which will be made available on the website of the respective Institutes. The shortlisted  candidates will directly receive interview letters from the institute.

Medical Test:
The shortlisted candidates on the basis of JET 2019 are required to undergo a Medical test as per the  selection criteria of both the institutes. The test will be conducted by the Medical Officer(s) appointed by the respective institutes.

On the basis of the outcome of Medical test, the candidature of a shortlisted candidate may even stand cancel. The decision of the respective institutes in this regard would be final.

FTII JET Preparation Tips

  1. To become a good film maker one needs to have qualities such as Leadership, observer, good writing skills, etc. Try and develop these skills by yourself.
  2. Have a thorough reading about the World cinema, Indian film history, folk dances of India, Growth of cinema, Ups and downs of films, technical terms related to films, theater and dramas, various turning points and movements of world and Indian cinema, grammar of cinema, famous painters and their paintings, famous cine artists, famous books and authors, etc.
  3. You are required to have a deep knowledge of films and film related aspects to answer the general descriptive and specific area test questions.
  4. Devote a lot of time to watch films of all languages. This will improve your imagination and observation qualities, acting skills and story telling talent.
  5. Along with studies also start to learn the art of film making all by yourself.
  6. Stand before mirror and start acting if you wish be to become actor.
  7. Start writing stories and short script if you want to become a director.
  8. To become cinematographer, try shooting short stories or plays.
  9. It is not a good idea to only waste your time in books. Your intention is not only to join FTII, but to become filmmaker. Try and gain as much knowledge as you can from every source which are available to you.
  10. Lastly, be strong both mentally and physically. Keep your health good and face the FTII entrance exam with confidence.
