Oberoi STEP

Oberoi STEP was launched in 2004 and is an initiative to help students get admission into a 3 year program for practical training at a hotel of The Oberoi Group. Getting admission through the same implies that one is able to get training in the core functions of hotel management like Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Service and Kitchen. The programs offered by Oberoi Step are:

The Kitchen Operations Programme involves training in Western and Indian kitchens and specialist sections such as bakery, pastry and cold kitchen.

The Hotel Operations Programme consists of two streams:
  • Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus
  • Housekeeping focus
This basically includes a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Studies (BTS) from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) where students get the dual benefit of practical and theoretical knowledge. 1 day study period is provided along with IGNOU fees, reference books and an additional three weeks leave to enable you to take the IGNOU exams along with monthly stipend, accommodation, meals on duty, uniform and medical insurance.

Eligibility Criteria Oberoi STEP

Those who are between the ages of 18-20 are eligible for this entrance exam. The students must have completed and passed their class 12. The candidate should have obtained 61% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a B2 Grade or a 7 Grade Point. Students who are interested in the Hotel Operations Programme (Housekeeping focus) should have obtained 51% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a C1 Grade or a 6 Grade Point.

Application Process Oberoi STEP

The application process for Oberoi STEP will begin in February and the actual program commences in August. You have to fill up the Online Application Form, which takes into account a lot of details, including your personality traits and ability to work in groups. Based on this, you will be called for the actual exam. Students have the option to select a venue and date for your selection process.

Oberoi STEP Exam Pattern

The first step is the test paper section that comprises of 4 sections and you have to clear the same in 2 hours. There are only 150 questions with selective four answer option with no negative marking.

Oberoi Step is not going to be just your paper and pen exam. It has a completely elaborate and detailed selection process. Once you have filled the form, you will be provided a data for the jets and should come on time for the same along with one print-out of their application form along with one passport-size photograph, copy of their class X certificate and class XII certificate.
    
In the first round, candidates are taken for a short tour in group of 15-20 and questionnaires and other activities are conducted in spoken English. Then the selected candidates are taken to round 2 where there is a one-on-one meeting with a panel comprising of faculty. And finally they are taken to round three where activities and questionnaires including a final interview with a panel is conducted.

  • STEP Test results announcement is on the end of April or first week of May
  • The course will commence in the month of August
