Every year hundreds of students take admission to the prestigious law schools through the the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is a common admission test for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. Affiliated to Bar Council of India (BCI), NLUs are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The first NLU was established in 1986 and was called National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.
