Postgraduate Education in India

In India graduation is now treated as the basic level of education especially if one wants to pursue a job  after that or appear for competitive exams. If one want to pursue higher studies then postgraduate courses are a must. Post-graduation can be pursued in any stream - Science, Humanities, Commerce. Students studying engineering can also pursue postgraduation or MTech after their BTech and doctors too can complete their MD which is a postgraduate degree. Central Universities, State Universities and Private Universities all offer various postgraduate programs in India.

Masters in any field is necessary if one wants to become a college lecturer or professor. If one wants to pursue higher studies then postgraduation is the minimum qualification. Job prospects even in schools increase with the postgraduate degree. Salary and designation of a postgraduate employee is definitely higher than a graduate degree holder. 

Entrance Exams for Postgraduate Students

Universities hold their individual entrance exams for admission to postgraduate courses in general academic fields. For engineering, a national level test Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is administered. The purpose of GATE 2017 exam is to test the students knowledge and understanding of their under Graduate level subjects in Engineering and Science for admission to ME. /M. Tech courses. For admission to medical postgraduate courses entrance exams are carried out which are again held by the individual universities or at the state level.
