Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers - AMIE Exam

The Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) commonly known as AMIE is a professional certification program administered by the Institution of Engineers (India). The program is administered in two phases i.e. AMIE Group A and AMIE Group B. On successful completion of both group papers AMIE Certificate in selected discipline of engineering is awarded. The certificate holds the value equivalent to Bachelor of Engineering (BE) / Bachelor of Technology (BTech) from any recognized university or board. AMIE certificate holders are accepted worldwide across academia and industry.

The AMIE's main attraction is, it is a recognized engineering degree course that can be studied in distance education mode. The course does not demand any class room attendance, hence any candidate who meets the eligibility criteria can pursue this courses and become a graduate engineer. However, like any other regular engineering program AMIE also demands certain number of study hours to complete the course work. Since AMIE Postal Classes are arranged, this course is highly suitable for any employed person. One can study this course without any hindrance to their job, whether they are in the country or abroad.

AMIE Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for AMIE examination is prepared by the Institution of Engineers (India), the largest multidisciplinary body of engineers in the country. It conducts examination and issue certificates etc. of AMIE.

The AMIE syllabus is similar to that of B.E/B.Tech. It comprises of two parts: Section A and B (like that of a First year, Second year of any formal degree level course).

Candidates are required to first study and clear all subjects in Section A (total number of subjects in Section A may vary and is based upon one's qualification).

After successfully completing Section A, one should study Section B (total number of subjects in Section B is 9).

Candidates who clear both the sections (A and B) is said to have passed A.M.I.E examination and becomes a qualified graduate engineer.

Find below the number of subjects required as per one’s qualification -
  1. Exam Passed: Plus Two
    Section A: 10
    Section B: 9 Lab and 19 Lab & Project
    Total Sub. 10
    Max. Time: 6 Years

  2. Exam Passed: 3 Year's Diploma
    Section A: 4
    Section B: 9 Lab and 13 Lab & Project
