Recruitment of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC)

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts Computer Based Aptitude Test for the selection of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) in Indian Railways. On the basis of this examination seats are offered following posts and services.
  1. Commercial apprentice (CA)
  2. Traffic apprentice (TA)
  3. Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk (ECRC)
  4. Goods Guard
  5. Senior Clerk Cum Typist
  6. Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist (JAA)
  7. Assistant Station Master (ASM)
  8. Traffic Assistant
  9. Senior Time Keeper

Eligibility Criteria RRB NTPC

Educational Qualification

The candidates should have successfully completed graduation from a recognized university.
For Senior Clerk Cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist (JAA) and Senior Time Keeper, computer typing proficiency in English/Hindi is essential.

Age Limit

The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 32 years as on the date of applying. However, there is an age relaxation for candidates belonging to reserved category as per Govt. of India norms.

Nationality

Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply.

Medical Standards

Candidates are required to fulfill all the medical standards as per the requirement of the post(s) they have opted for. Those found medically unsuitable shall not be given any alternative appointment. Visual Acuity Standard is considered as one of the important criteria of medical fitness of railway staff.

Medical Standard: A-2
General Fitness: Physically fit in all respects
Visual Acuity:
Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses.
Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses and must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, etc.

Medical Standard: C-1
General Fitness: Physically fit in all respects
Visual Acuity:
Distance Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses.
Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required.

RRB NTPC Selection Process

The NTPC selection process of the candidates is strictly based upon merit. There will be a common Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBT) / followed by Typing test or Aptitude Test wherever applicable and finally the Document Verification.
  1. For CA, TA, ECRC and Goods Guard candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the marks obtained in CBT.
  2. For Senior Clerk Cum Typist, JAA and Senior Time Keeper, typing skill test of qualifying nature shall be conducted for which the number of candidates which equals to eight times the number of vacancies shall be called. The candidates must be able to type 30 WPM in English and 25 WPM in Hindi.  However, it is to be noted that the marks obtained in typing skill test shall not be added for making merit.
  3. For ASM and Traffic Assistant, candidates are required to appear for an aptitude test. Here, 70% weightage will be given to the marks obtained in the CBT and 30% weightage is given to the marks obtained in aptitude test.
Candidates are required to produce their original documents during document verification.

Stages RRB NTPC Stages Examination

The NTPC recruitment exam shall comprise of the following stages -

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT) will be conducted for all candidates.
Stage 2: Document Verification for the post of Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, ECRC and Goods Guard.
Stage 3: Typing Skill test of qualifying nature followed by document verification for the post of JAA, Senior Clerk and Senior Time Keeper. PWD candidates having a disability of more than 40% are exempted from the typing test. Such candidates must bring typing skill test exemption certificate issued by competent medical board.
Stage 4: Aptitude Test followed by document verification for the post of ASM and Traffic Assistant. They should produce a vision certificate from an Eye Specialist on prescribed proforma, failing which the candidates will not be allowed to appear in the Aptitude Test.

Question Type: Objective Multiple Choice Type
Medium of Language: English, Hindi, Urdu and Local Languages
Topics Included: General Awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence and Reasoning
No. of Questions: 100
Duration: 90 mins

Note:
  1. There shall be negative marking in CBT and 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question will be deducted for wrong answers.
  2. Candidates are not allowed to use calculators, laptops, pagers, mobile phones or any other electronic devices inside the examination hall. Candidates are advised not to bring any the banned items, as arrangement for safe-keeping cannot be assured.

The application process for NTPC Recruitment in Indian Railways is completely online. Candidates can register through the respective zonal websites of RRBs. A valid Email Id and Mobile No is mandatory for registration. While filling application form you are advised to read instructions provided on official website carefully and follow every step as applicable. An incomplete application form may attract cancellation of candidature.
