The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a centrally funded organiation and administering authority for Recruitment Examinations at Higher Secondary, College level and beyond. The authority also conducts many departmental examinations for promotions etc.
The Government of India (GoI) has founded Subordinate Service Commission on 4 Nov. 1975. Later, on 26 Sep 1977 this commission renamed into present day Staff Selection Commission. It has Headquarters in New Delhi and Regional Offices in with Branch Offices in Allahabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore and two Sub-Regional Offices at Raipur and Chandigarh.
The Government of India has redefined functions of SSC through Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension on 21 May 1999. The commission adopted its new constitution on 1 June 1999. The supreme authority of this office is Chairman and then comes its members.
The SSC administers many recruitment examinations throughout the year. Some examinations are conducted periodically on year to year basis. Some examinations SSC conduct when need for recruitment of manpower arises. The candidates selected through different examinations get work opportunities under different government agencies.
