UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE)

Healthcare professionals are required by Government of India for advisory on issues related public health. These professionals are also responsible for the administration of healthcare facilities and formal and informal education. The candidates with medical degree are eligible to work in this capacity. The government of India bestowed the responsibility of finding these professionals on Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India. For the purpose UPSC administers Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) Computer Based Examination and Interview. The candidates qualified for the job are recommended by the commission to government for recruitment of various posts and services.   • Assistant Medical Officer in Indian Ordnance Factories Health Services
  • Junior Scale Posts in Central Health Services

CMSE Important Dates

CMSE Exam Pattern

The exam will be conducted according to the plan mentioned below:

Part 1 (Computer Based Examination) – 500 marks

An applicant will have to appear in Computer-based examination in two papers and each paper will consist of 250 marks. Each paper will be of two hours duration.

Part 2 (Personality Test) – 100 Marks

The personality test will be of 100 Marks. Candidates, who qualify the computer-based examination, they will be eligible to appear in this test.

Part 1: Computer Based Examination Paper 1- 250 Marks
a) General Ability-30 Questions
b) General Medicine-70 Questions
c) Paediatrics-20 Questions

Computer Based Examination Paper 2- 250 marks
a) Surgery-40 Questions
b) Gynaecology & Obstetrics-40 Questions
c) Preventive & Social Medicine-40 Questions

Part 2: Personality Test/Interview

Only after qualifying the Computer Based examination, candidates will be invited to attend the Interview/Personality test. The Interview/Personality test will be of 100 marks. The centre for this stage of testing is New Delhi only.

Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad, Dispur, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Port Blair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam

CMSE Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: A candidate must be either (a) a citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 01st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt of India
 
Age Limit
To appear for this examination a candidate must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 01st August of the year of examination.
 
Upper Age Relaxation: The relaxation in age criteria follows according to rules and regulations of government.
 
Educational Qualification: For admission to the exam, a candidate should have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination. A candidate who has appeared or has yet to appear at the final MBBS Exam may also apply.
A candidate who has yet to complete the compulsory rotating internship is educationally eligible for admission to the examination but on selection he/she will be appointed only after he/she has completed the compulsory rotating internship
 
Physical and Medical Standards: Candidates must be physically and medically fit. 

CMSE Fees

Candidates eligible to apply for Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) need to submit an examination fees of Rs 200. Fees can be submitted online or using credit / debit card. Also candidates can chose to pay fees at designated bank counter in cash. Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates are exempted from fees submission.

Eligible medical doctors willing to offer service to Government of India are require to submit online application through official form submission website. Application procedure is completely online. You will need a valid email id and mobile number for all future communication with the commission. CMSE Admit Card

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) uploads CMSE Admit Card on its official website. Candidates who has successfully applied for this examination are require to download and print admit card. The availability of CMSE Admit Card is informed to candidates via email and SMS. A detailed press release is also published on UPSC website: www.upsc.gov.in

CMSE Result

CMSE is a two stage examination, Written Test and Interview. On the basis of written test UPSC prepares merit rank and invites candidates for Personality Test / Interview. Final list of selected candidates alongwith Merit Rank is published by the commission on official website as per schedule. The commission recommends names of selected candidates to government for appointment on different posts and services.
