Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy

CCRYN being an apex organization for formulation, co-ordination, development and promotion of research on scientific lines in Yoga & Naturopathy system of medicine, The Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy was established on 30th March,1978 with the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare as President of Governing Body. Earlier Naturopathy was looked after by the Ministry of Health & family Welfare directly. Currently, it is functioning as an autonomous organization under the newly created Ministry of AYUSH, Govt.of India and fully funded by the Ministry for all its activities. It is involved in various activities related to the development of these systems in terms of research,education,training and propagation.

Objectives of Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy


  1. To formulate aims and patterns of research on scientific lines in Yoga & Naturopaty.
  2. To undertake any education, training, research and other programmes in Yoga & Naturopathy.
  3. To promote and assist institutions in prosecution of research, propagation of research especially with emphasis for covering the rural population of the country.
  4. To initiate ,aid,develop and co-ordinate scientific research in fundamental and applied aspects of Yoga & Naturopathy.
  5. To finance enquiries and researchers for thr furtherance of objects of the Council and to exchange information with other institutions,associations and societies having similar objects.
  6. To prepare, print, publish and exhibit papers,posters, pamphelts,periodicals and books for the furtherance of the objectives of the Council and to contribute to such literature.
  7. To offer prizes and grant scholarships in furtherance of the objectives of the Council.

The Council undertakes the following research schemes:


Clinical Research
On the recommendation of Standing Finance Committee (SFC), 100% financial assistance is given to the premier Medical, Yoga & Naturopathy Institutions for conducting clinical research to establish efficacy of Yoga & Naturopathy in prevention & treatment of various diseases.

Collaborative Research
The Council is committed to promote research and understanding the basic mechanism of action of various Yoga & Naturopathy treatments at the various levels. The therapies are prescribed to the patients mainly to reduce the psychological disturbances, improve the quality of life, reduce the burden of the disease, reduce the toxicity and complications of the treatment, to improve the disease parameters etc. 

In-House-Research
The Council has started an “In House Research Cell” to conduct in-depth research in Yoga and Naturopathy.
