Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC)

Inter-University Accelerator Centre has been playing a very special role of a research institute within the University system where the scientific and technical staff have dual responsibilities of facilitating research for a large user community as well conducting their own research. The basic objective of Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) is to provide front ranking accelerator based research facilities to create possibilities for internationally competitive research within the university system.

The Centre has established sophisticated accelerator systems and experimental facilities in project mode involving several universities for internationally competitive research in the areas of Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Atomic Physics, Radiation Biology, Radiation Physics and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry.

IUAC offers research opportunities in accelerator based experimental physics in areas. IUAC conducts one year (two semester) teaching programme.

IUAC Programmes

M Sc Orientation Porgramme
Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) conducts M. Sc. Orientation Programme to encourage interested students to supplement their knowledge and to motivate them to continue their career in science. This programme has been envisaged to provide hands-on training in fields associated with accelerator based research to selected M. Sc. students by way of short projects. However, this programme is not conducted to satisfy the M. Sc. credit requirements of any University / Department

M. Sc. Orientation programme is three weeks programme and is open through out the year. Student can apply for this programme based on their convenient time. This flexibility allows the students to choose the project period without hampering their main study course.

Educational Qualifications
  • Student pursuing their M. Sc. in relevant field
  • Student waiting for the M. Sc. final year/semester result
  • Good academic record

PhD in experimental physics
IUAC offers PhD programme registered under Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The Programme has a strong orientation towards ion accelerator based experimental physics research. The priority areas for PhD research are ion induced experimental studies in: Atomic & Molecular Physics, Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Accelerator Physics, Accelerator Mass Spectrometry and Radiation Biology.

Admission
Admission to PhD program is through Written test and interview. The date of joining IUAC as JRF for PhD programme is their official Date of Admission.
