UGC NET: National Eligibility Test for selection of Assistant Professor and JRF

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is autonomous body under MHRD for administration and guidance of Higher Education Institutions in India. The National Educational Testing (NET) Bureau of UGC carries the responsibility to select candidates for appointment of Assistant Professors to Indian Colleges and Universities and Junior Research Fellows (JRFs). For the purpose NET Bureau select candidates on the basis of performance in UGC NET / University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test.

With the establishment of National Testing Agency (NTA) the NET Bureau has bestowed the responsibility of UGC NET Administration on NTA. Earlier this test was administered by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) New Delhi, and back several years by UGC itself. Prospective candidates can write UGC NET examination twice in a year given if they possess necessary eligibility criteria.

On the basis of UGC NET performance candidates are selected for positions of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Only Indian Nationals can apply for UGC NET. Also, Indian Nationals with a foreign qualification are eligible to apply.

The UGC NET serves the purpose to find eligible candidates for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian Universities and Colleges. The test is administered twice in a year.
