- Manufacturing Production
- Robotics Engineer
If you have fascination for automated machines, mechanical aptitude and ofcourse would like to pursue engineering degree then you could surely jump start your career in Robotics Engineering. It is one of the most rapidly developing field with new possibilities of computing applications being constantly opening up for robotics applications in agriculture, mining, nuclear power-plant maintenance, and a variety of other fields. The profession offers jobs for a wide range of temperaments but relative novelty of profession puts extra premium on creativity.
Role of Robotics Engineers
- Debug robotics programs.
- Provide technical support for robotic systems.
- Review or approve designs, calculations, or cost estimates.
- Install, calibrate, operate, or maintain robots.
- Supervise, technologists, technicians, or other engineers.
- Integrate robotics with peripherals, such as welders, controllers, or other equipment.
- Process or interpret signals or sensor data.
- Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.
- Create back-ups of robot programs or parameters.
- Design automated robotic systems to increase production volume or precision in high-throughput operations, such as automated ribonucleic acid (RNA) analysis or sorting, moving, or stacking production materials.
Skills needed to be Robotics Engineers
Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Physics: Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
Critical Thinking: Robotics Engineer should use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Active Listening: Robotics Engineer should Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Complex Problem Solving: Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions is the skill needed during development of any application .
Judgment and Decision Making: Robotics Engineers must Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Education and Training to become Robotics Engineer
A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required for most entry-level positions in robotics engineering. There are various Engineering degree disciplines that can lead you to become Robotics Engineer- Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering , or Industrial Engineering. Some colleges and universities now offer robotics engineering degrees.
It usually takes four to five years to earn a bachelor's degree in engineering. Some colleges offer work-study programs in which students receive on-the-job training while still in school. Most universities that offer robotics courses have well-equipped labs with lasers and CADD/CAM equipment.
For some positions, and to advance in the field, you need a master's degree or PhD. A PhD is required to teach in this field as well as for most high-level research positions. A master's degree requires one to two years of additional schooling, while a PhD takes three to five additional years in school.
The engineers who can best anticipate needs which can be successfully filled by robots, and who can work effectively in engineering teams to develop them, will be extremely successful in the field.
