NIMCET is conducted by one of the the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) for admission to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programmes at different NITs. NIMCET is a National Level Entrance Test. College graduates looking to make career in Software Engineering and related discipline takes this test. MCA is a 3 year post graduate degree course.
NIMCET Eligibility Criteria
Those candidates who have secured 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA) in a 3 years Bachelor’s degree full Time course, from any recognized University with at least Mathematics / Statistics / Business as one subject can apply for this exam. Candidates can be from any category like B.E./ b.tech/ B.Sc/ BCA/BIT. It is mandatory to have one of these languages in 10+2 level too. The SC/ST candidates can apply for the same with just 55% (6.0/10 CGPA). Candidates who are appearing for the final year exams are also eligible to appear for NIMCET. But it is mandatory for them to secure at least 60% marks in the same and show proof of it. This examination is open only to Indian Nationals. The candidates should be between 21 to 25 years of age.

NIMCET Application Form
To get the application form for this exam, you have to log on to the official website. Then you have to create a unique ID and password to get your registration process started. Do note down the unique application number given when you create the ID for all future reference. You will also need to upload your photo and signature or scan the same. The required fee is payable via debit cards, credit cards and even internet banking. Once done, you have to click on the submit option. Then you have to download this form and print the same and send it to the provided address, along with e-receipt for payment and other necessary documents.

Once the form is filled with all relevant documents, take a print out and send the same to the administering authority before the due date is over.
This application can get you admission to MCA prgoramme into one of the 31 NIT's in India.
NIMCET Admit Card
Once these formalities are done, you will get a notification for the admit card or you can check the website for the same too. Usually the admit cards are available online in May. So check the same and get a printout, which should be carried to the examination hall or else entry will be denied along with relevant ID proof (if mentioned on website).
NIMCET Examination Mode
The NIMCET examination is a two and a half hours paper and consists of 120 multiple-choice questions. There will be four choices for each question. For all the right answers, you get 4 marks and the wrong answers lead to a negative marking of 1 mark. During the exam, the candidates mark the responses in the OMR sheets, which is supplied in the examination hall. Being a paper and pencil exam, all candidates have to bring their own HB pencil, eraser and ballpoint pen. No other material like calculators, mobile phones, etc. are allowed inside the hall.
NIMCET Syllabus
Mathematics
This section comprises of 50 questions that are broken up into the following categories-
Set Theory: Concepts of sets – Union – Intersection – Cardinality – Elementary counting, permutations and combinations Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions. Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization, simultaneous linear/quadratic equations, indices, logarithms- arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices. Coordinate Geometry, Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics. Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, General solutions of trigonometric equations.
Analytical Ability And Logic
The analytical ability and logic reasoning comprises of 40 questions. In this section, the candidate will be given a range of question on logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. There can also be some questions based on comprehension of a logical situation and there would be questions that validate facts given in the passage.
Computer Awareness
This section comprises of 10 sections and includes an array of subjects related to computer and computing. These include computer basics like Organization of a Computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, back-up devices. Data Representation: Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
General English
There are 20 questions for the general English section that checks on the potential of the candidate to understand English and their hold of the same. Some of the areas covered here include Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), Word power, Synonyms and Antonyms, Meanings of words and phrases, Technical writing.
