Career Options of Indian Navy

Artificer Apprentice

Candidates who have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to apply for the position of Artificer Apprentice. Unmarried male in the age group of 17 to 20 years are eligible to apply. The training begins at INS Chilka and then 8 weeks of sea training is then followed up with four years of technical training which is equivalent to Diploma in Aeronautical/Mechanical/Electrical engineer. Though the initial engagement is for a period of 20 years, it can be extended till one attains 57 years.
 

Senior Secondary Recruits

Unmarried males in the age group of 17-20 years who have passed 10 Plus 2 in the science stream are eligible to apply. After intensive training at INS Chilka followed by training at Naval Establishments, the candidate is admitted in the Indian Navy as Senior Secondary Recruit Sailor.

Matric Recruit and Non Matric Recruit (MR and NMR)

If you have passed only Class 10 or even studied till Class 6 you can join the Indian Navy as a steward or cook. After initial training at INS Chilka, they are trained on their respective trade at various Naval Establishments. The initial engagement period is for 15 years which can be extended till the age of 57 years.

Musicians

If you love music and you are looking for a career which will help you sustain your music and also have some adventure loaded with it then joining the Indian Navy as a musician is the right choice. If you have an aptitude for music and knowledge of western notation and theory of music and expert in playing some the instruments like percussion and brass, then join the Indian Navy.

Pay and Perks

Apprentice sailors fall under X group while others fall in the Y group. Pay is between the band of Rs 5200 Rs 20200. Other perks include insurance cover, 60 days of annual leave, free house and house rent allowance. For more information on pay and perks, click here
