Kindergarten and Elementary School Teachers

Kindergarten teachers use different methods of teaching such as play and learning and make the classroom experience more interesting for the young students. The young students imbibe and begin to develop basic foundation for academics as wells as for life.  Letter recognition, phonics, numbers, and awareness of nature and science, introduced at the preschool level, are taught primarily in kindergarten. 

Role of  Kindergarten and Elementary School Teachers

  • Plan lessons
  • Introduce children to mathematics, language, science, and social studies
  • Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Communicate with parents about their child’s progress
  • Work with individual students to challenge them and overcome their weaknesses
  • Develop and enforce classroom rules to teach children proper behavior
  • Supervise children outside of the classroom—for example, at lunchtime or during recess

Skills of Kindergarten and Elementary School Teachers

Communication skills: Teachers should be able to communicate well with teacher assistants and special education teachers, parents and administrators.

Creativity: Kindergarten and elementary school teachers must plan lessons that engage young students, adapting the lessons to every student’s learning style.

Instructional skills: Kindergarten and elementary school teachers must be able to explain difficult concepts in terms that young students can understand and tailored for each students’ need.

Patience: Patience is the most important trait a teacher should have so as to deal with students of different abilities and backgrounds.

Academic Qualification

Senior Secondary School certificate or Intermediate or its equivalent ; and

Diploma or certificate in basic teachers’ training of a duration of not less than two years.

OR

Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

Senior Secondary School certificate or Intermediate or its equivalent ; and

Diploma or certificate in elementary teachers training of a duration of not less than two years.
