Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigul

The Air Force Academy (AFA) situated at Dundigul in the state of newly formed Indian state Telangana. The state is subdivided from Andhra Pradesh (AP). The institute is spread over 7000 acres of land. Its location is 25 Km from Secunderabad and Hyderabad.
The AFA was started in 1971 for the training of cadets. At present, academy provides training to cadets of Flying Branch, Technical Branch and Ground Duty Branch. Also officers from Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force receives training here. The officers cadets receives 12 months training here. After completion of training they are commissioned into different branches of Indian Air Force (IAF)

Types of Training Offered by AFA

The Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigul offers following types of training programmes

Flying training: The cadets of Flying Branch receives training in three stages; i.e. State I, Stage II and Stage III. Specialization on Fighter, Helicopter and Transport Aircraft is offered during Stage III of training.Air Traffic Control Officers' training: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is authority to set flying procedures. The IFA uses the ICAO standard and provide training to cadets that meets military standards.
Ground Duty Officers' training: The cadets of Administrative, Logistics, Accounts, Education or Meteorology division offered this training before appointed as Ground Duty Officers.
Joint Services training: This is joint service training program of 22 weeks offered to the cadets of Flying, Technical and Ground Duty branches. After this training cadets selected for Aeronautical Engineering Branches undergo training at Air Force Technical College at Jalahalli, Bangalore. Here they also lean subjects like administration and service knowledge.
