Recruitment of Women in Indian Navy

Gone are the days when defence and armed forces jobs were only meant for men. Now women equally participate in serving their country by joining armed forces. As women today stands equivalent to men in every field of life so why not defence. The Indian Navy, since July 1992, has started recruiting women as Short Service Commissioned i.e. SSC Officers in select branches.Presently the women are inducted into the following 6 branches of the Navy as Officers through women entries: ATC, Observer, Law, Logistics, Education, Naval Architecture, Pilot (Maritime Reconnaissance Stream only) and Naval Armament Inspectorate.

There is also the approval of the government for Permanent Commission (PC) in Education Branch, Law and Naval Architecture on completion of SSC tenure depending on merit and vacancy.

Women in Indian Navy Eligibility Criteria

Naval Architecture:

  1. The candidates should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in their BE/B Tech Degree from recognised university in Mechanical/Civil/Aeronautical/Metallurgy/Naval Architecture.
    Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 ½ to 25 years of age.

Observer:

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in class 12.
    Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 to 24 years of age.

Education:

  1. Candidates should secure a minimum of second class in their master’s degree in Physics or Mathematics from a recognized university. Those who have done their Master’s degree in physics must have studied Mathematics and those possessing master’s degree in Mathematics should have studied Physics during graduation.

    Or

  2. Candidates should secure a minimum of second class in their master’s degree in Chemistry or English from a recognized university. Those who have done their Master’s degree in Chemistry should have studied Physics during graduation and those possessing Master’s degree in English should have studied Physics or Mathematics in their intermediate or other equivalent level.

    Or

  3. Candidates should possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Engineering in Computer Science/Technology.

    Or

  4. Candidates must secure a minimum of second class in their master’s degree in computer application or computer science. They should have studied either Mathematics or Physics at their graduation level.

    Or

  5. Candidates should have done their post-graduation in Humanities (Economics/History/ Political Science) from a recognized university.
Age: The age of the candidate should be between 21 to 25 years of age.

Logistics:

  1. Candidates should score a  minimum of 1st class marks in their BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline.

    Or

  2. Candidates should have successfully completed their MBA degree with 1st class.

    Or

  3. Candidates should have successfully completed their B Sc/B Com/B Sc(IT) with 1st class and must have a  PG Diploma in finance/Logistics/Supply Chain Mgt/Material Mgt.

    Or

  4. Candidates should have successfully completed their MCA/M Sc(IT) degree with 1st class.
Works:
  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their BE/B Tech(Civil)/B Architect.

Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 ½ to 25 years of age.

Law:

  1. Candidates are required to possess a law degree which qualify them for the enrolment of advocates under the Advocates Act, 1961.
Age: The age of the candidate should be between 22 to 27 years of age.

Air Traffic Control:

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in class 12.

Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 ½ to 25 years of age.

Pilot:

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in class 12.
    Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 to 24 years of age.

  2. CPL: Candidate holding a valid and current CPL issued by DGCA (India).
    Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 to 25 years of age.

Naval Armament Inspection (NAI):

  1. The candidates should have successfully completed their BE/B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Production/ Instrumentation/IT/Chemical/Metallurgy/Aerospace Engineering.
Age: The age of the candidate should be between 19 ½ to 25 years of age.

Women in Indian Navy Application Process

Candidates applying for more than one type of entry are required to submit separate applications. However, only one application form is to be filled for a particular entry. Choice of entry is to be clearly indicated on the application form. Applications are received only through Ordinary Post. Applications received through speed post/ registered post or couriers are rejected.
