NEET PG - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for PG Medical Admission

NEET PG is the eligibility-cum-ranking examination is held once a year in the month of January as a computer-based test for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) generally conducts NEET PG during the first week of January.

Medical graduates looking for admission to Master of Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) courses in the medical colleges of the country except for a few will have to appear for NEET PG. The application form of NEET PG is released in November. Candidates will have to fill in the application form of NEET PG in the online mode only within prescribed date and time.
No other entrance examination, either at state or institution level, shall be valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses.

NEET PG is also mandatory for foreign nationals seeking admission in medical courses in India. Candidates qualifying in the exam of NEET PG by securing the required cutoff percentile will be eligible for further counselling processes.

NEET PG Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidates are required to fulfill all the NEET PG eligibility criteria before they fill in the application form for the same.
  2. Candidates are required to possess a recognized MBBS degree.
  3. Candidates must possess a provisional/permanent registration certificate issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council.
  4. Candidates must complete their compulsory one-year rotatory internship by March 31 according to the eligibility criteria of NEET PG.
  5. Candidates completing their MBBS from the Jammu and Kashmir will be eligible for admission to the 50% All India Quota seats only if they have been nominees of the Government of India for the Central Pool Quota seats.
  6. Indian citizens or overseas citizens of India who have obtained their Primary Medical Qualifications from Medical Colleges outside India should have qualified the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (Screening Test) which is conducted by National Board of Examinations. Further, they should have been registered with MCI/SMC and should have completed their internship or likely to complete their internship on or before 31st March. Foreign Medical Graduates are required to bring their FMGE Pass certificate issued by NBE on their testing day.

NEET PG Application Fee

  • General/OBC candidates: Rs. 4250
  • SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 3250
Note: Fees is a variable and subject to change as and when notified by administering authority.

How to pay NEET PG Fees

Candidates are required to pay the prescribed exam fee through payment gateway provided using a Credit Card or a Debit Card issued by banks in India or through Internet Banking.

Candidates remaining absent from the examination or declared ineligible will forfeit their examination fee.

P.S.: Fees shall neither be refunded nor carried forward if the application for NEET-PG is rejected/candidature is found to be ineligible or candidate is unable to appear in the examination.

NEET PG Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of NEET PG has been discussed in detail below.
Examination Mode: Computer-Based Test
Examination Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes
Type of Questions: Multiple Choice
Number of Questions: 300 with four alternative responses for each
Marking Scheme: 4 for every correct answer, -1 for every incorrect answer, 0 marks for unanswered questions.

Allow Candidates to enter the examination centre and commence Biometric Registration: 1:30 PM
Entry closes at Examination Center: 3:00 PM
Grant access for Candidate Login: 3:15 PM
Candidates log in to read instructions: 3:20 PM
Exam Start Time: 3:30 PM
Exam End Time: 7:00 PM

Candidates are required to bring the following documents to the test centre (Unfair means case shall be registered against the candidates submitting false/forged documents.)
  1. Printed copy of the Admit Card with Photo of the candidate pasted on it.
  2. Photocopy of Permanent/Provisional SMC/MCI registration*, to be retained by the test centre.
  3. Any one of the authorized photo IDs** (must be original, valid and non-expired)
