NEET-UG: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

The NEET-UG  National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test  will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to Under Graduate Medical programmes. Till 2018, the test was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The NEET (UG) is conducted for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in India in Medical/Dental Colleges.

The NTA's responsibility will be limited to the conduct of the entrance examination, declaration of result and providing All India Rank (AIR) to the Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India for the conduct of counselling for towards admission to MBBS and BDS Under Graduate medical programs.

Important Dates: NEET UG

  • Start date for submission of NEET UG Online Application Form: December
  • Last Date for submission of NEET UG Online Application Form: December/January
  • NEET UG Exam Dates for admission into Under Graduate Medical Programmes: May
  • Duration of Examination: 3 Hours

Apart from the MBBS and BDS Courses, NEET UG Rank is also required for admission into AYUSH (Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Undergraduate courses.

NEET UG Fee Details

The NTA charge an examination fee from candidates towards NEET UG administration. Fees can be paid using Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card etc. Fees can also be paid through E-Challan of State Bank of India (SBI). Following amound should be paid by test takers:
  • General: 1600 INR 
  • Gen-EWS/OBC: 1500 INR 
  • SC/ST/PH/Persons with disability: 900 INR
  • Note: Fees is subject to change time to time.

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for NEET UG given below:

Minimum Age Requirement: 17 years as on December 31.

Maximum Age Limit: According to new directives of Honorable Supreme Court of India, the candidates above 25 years of age can also apply to appear for NEET UG. However, final decision about restrictions on upper age limit will be notified later.

Qualifying Exam: 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects in both Classes 11 and 12 from a recognized Board. Candidates from Open School Board are also eligible to apply. But matter related Open School candidates is still pending in Honorable Supreme Court of India.

Qualifying Marks: UR - 50%, OBC/SC/ST - 40%, PWD - 45% (minimum aggregate marks only for PCB subjects)

Nationality: Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs & Foreign Nationals

NEET UG Syllabus

Based on 10+2 syllabus, the candidates are tested on Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

NEET UG Exam Pattern

  1. Examination duration: 3 hours.
  2. The paper will be having 180 questions of MCQ type.
  3. You will get 4 marks for correct answer and -1 mark for the wrong answer.
  4. NEET question paper is divided into 4 sections which are as follows-
Botany: 45 questions, Physics: 45 questions, Zoology: 45 questions, Chemistry: 45 questions.

  • Must preserve the following documents:
  • 4 printed copies of Confirmation Page related application form is submitted successfully
  • Proof of fee paid
  • 5 identical copies of photograph that was scanned and uploaded with application form.
  • Copies of system generated self declaration if applying under 15% quota seats for Jammu and Kashmir
