Territorial Army Ex-Service Officers Recruitment

The Territorial Army (TA) is a part of Regular Army. The main role of the TA is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the security of the Country is threatened and to provide units for Regular Army as and when required.

The Territorial Army at present has a strength of approx. 40000 persons comprising of Departmental TA units such as ONGC, IOC, Railway and Non Departmental TA units of Infantry Battalion (TA) including Home & Hearth Battalions, Ecological Battalion (TA) affiliated to various Infantry Regiments and Engineer Regiment (TA) for maintenance of Line of Control Fencing.

Training Duration:
  • One month Basic Training in the first year of commission.
  • Two months Annual Training Camp every year including the first year.

TA Ex-Service Officers Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Only male citizens of India.

Age: The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 42 years as on the date of applying

Educational Qualifications: Candidates should have successfully completed their Graduate from any recognized university.

Physical Standards:
A candidate must be both mentally and physically fit in all respects.

Employment: Gainfully Employed.

Note: Serving member of the Regular Army/ Navy/ Air Force/ Police/ GREF/ Para Military and like forces are not eligible.

All desirous Ex Service Officers (Commissioned Officers only) of three services can send their applications alongwith release order and release medical board proceedings

TA Ex-Service Officers Selection Procedure

The candidates will be screened by the Army Headquarters Selection Board (ASB) held at Additional Directorate General Territorial Army, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, ‘L’ Block, Church Road, New Delhi – 110 001.

The recommended candidates are required to undergo a medical examination at the Armed Forces Clinic, New Delhi which is followed by a Police Verification for final selection. All such officers are given the credit of their previous commissioned service on joining the Territorial Army.

Type of Exam: Only Interview.

Medical Examination

Recommended candidates appear before the medical board for carrying out their medical board after the SSB results. It takes 4 to 5 days time for the concerned Military Hospital to complete the medical board and after that the candidates are dispersed.

Gainfully employed Ex-Defence service officers fulfilling the above eligibility criteria can apply in response to advertisements published in leading national newspapers & the Employment News in December – January every year. All desirous Ex Service Officers (Commissioned Officers only) of three services can download Application Form (IAF (TA)-9 (Revised) Part - 1) from the official website joinindianarmy.nic.in (FREE OF COST) and send applications alongwith Photocopy of Release Order and Photocopy of Release Medical Board Proceedings to Additional Directorate General Territorial Army, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, ‘L’ Block, Church Road, New Delhi – 110 001.
